Chelsea P. Manders is a novelty

musician/actor/writer/comedian. Her unique and original comedy music has been described as “smart and original… savagely funny comedy” (NOW magazine), “stinging social satire” (London Free Press) and “raunchy folk music” (The Montreal Hour).

She writes a lot. Most often on restaurant napkins. But sometimes on beer coasters or small Russian children. She is a staunch Victorian from Vancouver Island, BC, CANADA.

As an actress, Chelsea has been recently seen in Rhubarb! Festival 2009 ‘The Disciple’ (Buddies in Bad Times),  Jerry Springer: The Opera at Hart House Theatre (Dir. Richard Ouzounian), Lady MacDuff in Macbeth (Classical Theatre Project), Portia in Julius Caesar and Feste in Twelfth Night (Alchemy Theatre), and was featured on YTV ‘How to be Indie’ as Ms. Nunes and Slice Television Three Takes’.

She can be seen performing music comedy around town with the lovely Ingrid Haas in Charity & Chastity (www.charityandchastity.com). They’ve performed at many comedy venues including The Bad Dog Theatre, The Comedy Bar, and Diesel Playhouse. They are currently writing a TV sitcom, The Substitutes, based on their act with Tricon Productions in Toronto.

She performed for 3 years with the comedic folk duo, The Black Roses (www.nefariousblackroses.com), with the brilliant Hayley Gratto. It was a lot of fun and they did fab things like the Canadian Comedy Awards, The Comedy Network, CBC Radio & Television, Buddies in Bad Times (Hysteria, Bitch Salad, City of Freaks), CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Toronto International Sketch Comedy Festival, Newfoundland/Labrador Tour, Fringe Festival Tour (Toronto/Montreal/London “Best Show” & “Producer’s Pick”) a recording with National Lampoon, and they were honored to be nominated for the 2006 Tim Sims Encouragement Award (best up-and-coming Toronto comedian). They wrote a musical with a grant from the Grand Theatre (London, ON), The Rose Garden : A Comedic Fairy Tale Musical and continue to work shop it with The Grand’s support.

Hayley and Chelsea still hold weekly book club meetings where they discuss Harlequin Romance novels.

Chelsea resides in Toronto where she admires downtown corporate art.  She is a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School (Toronto) and has studied at the British American Drama Academy (Oxford) and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Cardiff).

UPCOMING: She is currently studying comedic scriptwriting at Humber School of Comedy with David Flaherty.

She has completed her first solo comedy CD, Don’t Tell My Dad’ produced by BC-based Juno-nominated music producer/musician extraordinaire Adrian Dolan and her very own brother, Mr. Glen Manders, himself a Juno-nominated double bassist.

Also, she is looking forward to a Fringe 2009 Tour to Montreal.London.Toronto.Winnipeg.Victoria!
